Our “Merry Movie & Magical Moments” event\, brought to you by our Presenting Sponsor Mariposa Dairy\, will bring families\, friends\, and neighbours together to enjoy the Christmas comedy classic Elf on the big screen. \n\n\n\nThis is more than just a movie. It is a morning of holiday magic where every ticket sold helps brighten the lives of our neighbours in need. Proceeds from the event will support our Subsidy Program\, which helps cover a portion\, if not all of the cost of services for our neighbours in the City of Kawartha Lakes who would otherwise be unable to afford them. While most of our services are offered free of charge or at a low cost\, there are some that unfortunately are not. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we gather in our community to honour the lives lost to accidental drug poisoning\, support loved ones who grieve\, and raise awareness around the impact of overdose. \n\n\n\n📍 Main Event at Old Mill Park\n\n\n\nFriday\, August 29 | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PMOld Mill Park\, Lindsay \n\n\n\nOur main gathering will include a memorial vase ceremony\, where community members are invited to write the name of a loved one on a rock and place it in the vase. Hospice will host a table with resources on grief support\, and music will be shared throughout the day: \n\n\n\n\n10:00 AM – Opening welcome\, moment of silence\, and live music with volunteer Charlie Bellerby\n\n\n\n12:00 PM – Midday music by Ryan Burton\n\n\n\n1:00 PM – Performance by Supportive Care Counsellor Brian Farmer\n\n\n\n\n📍 Proclamation & Flag Ceremony\n\n\n\nFriday\, August 29 | 1:00 PMKawartha Lakes City Hall \n\n\n\nA formal proclamation will be read and flags will be lowered in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day. Kawartha Lakes Police Service will also lower their flags from dawn until dusk. \n\n\n\n📍 Community Reading\n\n\n\nSaturday\, August 30 | 10:30 AMLindsay–Kawartha Lakes Public Library \n\n\n\nFamilies are invited to a reading of The Invisible String\, a story that helps children and adults alike explore love\, loss\, and connection.
