Want to join our team of over 300 volunteers?

Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes was founded by volunteers, and they’ve remained vital to our ability to deliver care to thousands across the City of Kawartha Lakes. Volunteering is a rewarding way to get involved in the community, learn new skills, meet new people, and above all, give back to your community.

See what some of our dedicated Volunteers have to say.

We have many flexible options throughout Kawartha Lakes that can fit your schedule, whether it is once a week or once a month. Our volunteering opportunities give you a chance to make a real difference in the life of seniors or adults with disabilities in your community.

Community Care Kawartha Lakes is seeking volunteer drivers to provide transportation for clients who are unable to drive for themselves. A reimbursement is provided for out-of-pocket expenses such as fuel, insurance and vehicle maintenance directly to the volunteer.

To join our team of volunteers, we require compliance with our COVID-19 policy and a vulnerable sector check.

To learn more about or to express your interest in becoming a volunteer driver, please email volunteer@ccckl.ca, phone705-324-7323 ext. 466 or complete the online application form.

Community Care Kawartha Lakes is seeking volunteers to assist with preparing hot meals and delivering hot and/or frozen Meals on Wheels. Hot meals are prepared locally throughout Kawartha Lakes and delivered to clients. Volunteers may also, or instead, assist with frozen meal delivery.

To join our team of volunteers, we require compliance with our COVID-19 policy and a vulnerable sector check.

Community Care Kawartha Lakes is seeking volunteers interested in joining our friendly visiting program, which matches volunteers with clients based on common interests. A few hours a month can make a very special difference in the life of an isolated senior or adult with special needs. Volunteers offer confidential, one-to-one companionship with support to local residents who are lonely or isolated. This service, offered at no cost to clients, provides much needed social contact and a check on an individual’s safety and wellbeing.

To join our team of volunteers, we require compliance with our COVID-19 policy and a vulnerable sector check.

To learn more about or to express your interest in becoming a friendly visiting volunteer, please email volunteer@ccckl.ca, phone 705-324-7323 ext.466 or complete the online application form.

Hospice volunteers are community members wanting to support hospice palliative care, and clients and families using our services. Volunteers support hospice services in a variety of areas, including client visiting, bereavement support, kitchen, reception, special events, and outdoor support.

Volunteers complete hospice training based off of Hospice Palliative Care Ontario’s 13 module training covering topics such as: Introduction to Hospice Palliative Care, Volunteer Role and Understanding Professional Boundaries, Communication Skills, Pain and Symptom Management, Understanding the Dying Process, Spirituality, Grief and Bereavement, Care for the Caregiver, Family, Ethics, Psychosocial Issues and Impact of Illness, Cultural Considerations, Infection Prevention and Control, and Orientation to your Local Hospice. Training and education is ongoing and sessions are offered throughout the year.

Bereavement volunteers participate in the 30-hour hospice training as well as an additional bereavement training. Bereavement volunteers support anyone anticipating a death or grieving the loss of a loved one. Volunteers support clients with one-to-one support or in support groups.

To join our team of volunteers, we require compliance with our COVID-19 policy and a vulnerable sector check.

We have two dynamic, unique, and distinctly connected, Boards of Directors.  Every day Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes, our operating company, pursues our vision of ‘Health and community support services delivered at the right time, in the right place, for people living in the City of Kawartha Lakes’. Our community Board of up to 12 Directors governs the public, charitable not-for-profit corporation.  The Community Care Foundation (Kawartha Lakes), overseen by a separate Board of Directors of up to 11 Directors, has the sole mandate of raising and managing much needed funds for Community Care to deliver vital services in our community.

We are excited to announce that our Community Care Board is actively recruiting Directors.  As a Board Director, you will have a meaningful role in steering the future of the organization as we embark on our progressive ‘The Road Ahead’ three-year Strategic Plan. As a member of our team you will join an engaged, motivated, and diverse team of volunteers who offer two to three hours per month (excluding July and August) to our mandate. Since 1985, Community Care services have aligned with the community’s needs through programs such as transportation, meals on wheels, a dental clinic, a full-scope primary care service (medical and nursing), hospice services and so much more.  We have benefited from an incredible line of Board Directors to support this work for nearly four decades!

We embrace equity, diversity and inclusion and we need Directors from all backgrounds and life experiences to position Community Care for excellence. The strength of our Boards is made from the collective skills and strengths of our Directors.  The following skills are considered an asset: Board Governance, Risk Management, Finance, Health Care Admin and Policy, Political Acumen, and more.  If you have this experience and align with our values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence, then we may be the perfect pairing!  We invite you to put your skills, expertise and vision to work to enhance the health and quality of life for the people of the City of Kawartha Lakes.  Community Care is well positioned in the context of our evolving healthcare landscape to stay true to our roots while meeting emerging opportunities.

Please express your interest today by completing and submitting the online application form. The application deadline is June 9, 2023 at 5:00pm.  While we thank all applicants for their interest, only candidates invited to provide more information and/or to be interviewed will be contacted.
