When Samantha and Holly Burke’s mother was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s at just 60 years old, their family became caregivers overnight.
As her condition progressed and she began using a wheelchair, getting to appointments became increasingly difficult.
That’s when Community Care stepped in.
Today, Community Care’s transportation services continue helping families like theirs access care, connection, and independence.

For many clients, transportation means getting to cancer treatments, specialist appointments, rehabilitation, and other essential healthcare. For others, it means attending community programs, reconnecting with loved ones, and staying active and independent.

Every year, our specialized vans travel thousands of kilometres across the City of Kawartha Lakes and beyond. The distance they travel means increased maintenance costs and regular vehicle replacement.
Each new accessible van costs more than $120,000 before specialized modifications.
This summer, the Community Care Foundation is raising $50,000 to help fund the accessibility modifications for one new specialized transportation van.
