Staying active is one of the best ways to maintain independence, improve balance, and support overall wellbeing. Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes offers a variety of exercise programs designed specifically for older adults and those looking for safe, supportive ways to stay moving. Whether you prefer group classes, walking programs, or recreational activities, there’s something for everyone.

How to Register

If you are new to our exercise programs, you will need to register before attending your first class. Programs with a waitlist will also require registration. Any programs with a waitlist will be noted in the program sections below.

2. Receive Confirmation

After you submit your registration, a member of our team will contact you using your provided information to confirm your attendance.

Falls prevention exercise classes are designed to help individuals, particularly older adults, reduce their risk of falling. These classes typically include a combination of cardio endurance, strength training, balance exercises, and flexibility activities. The primary goal is to improve muscle strength, enhance balance and coordination, and increase overall stability. Classes are led by trained instructors and may also include education on safe movement techniques and home safety tips. All classes are free of charge. You must pre-register if you haven’t attended one of our exercise classes before.

Tai Chi

Every Thursday 3:30 – 4:30 pm – 21 Angeline St N Lindsay

This Tai Chi class teaches the basic movements of Tai Chi, with a focus on posture, balance, and controlled breathing. It supports gentle movement, coordination, and relaxation.


Stay Fit

Monday (except holidays) 11am – 12 pm St. Paul’s Anglican Church Lindsay

Thursday 1:30 – 2:30 pm St. Paul’s Anglican Church Lindsay

Tuesday (25 Hamilton St. Lindsay) 12 – 1 pm

Wednesday (Lindsay Armouries) from 1- 2 pm – on hold for the summer (June, July and Aug)

This dance-inspired exercise class is designed to help older adults reduce their risk of falling by improving their balance, strength, and flexibility. Exercises are a next step option for beginners, while still prioritizing safety and falls prevention.


Stay Fit Strength and Balance

Every Monday 1 – 2 pm St. Paul’s Anglican Church

This group has benefits for bone health, while encouraging skills related to stability and coordination. Exercises performed in this class are a next-step option for beginners, as we build muscle strength, endurance, and balance practice.


Chair Fit

Every Monday and Wednesday 3:15 – 4:15 pm 21 Angeline St N Lindsay

A seated, music-driven class that involves cardio, upper and lower body work. Concurrently training balance, coordination, and memory. Come groove with us!


Chair Yoga

Every Monday (except holidays) and Wednesday 11 am – 12 pm 21 Angeline St N Lindsay

Beginner level seated class to regain, and develop muscle strength, coordination, and balance. This group has benefits for bone health, while encouraging skills related to stability and coordination.


Seated Strength and Stretch

Every Monday (except holidays) and Wednesday 12:05 – 1:05 pm 21 Angeline St N Lindsay

Chair based strength training combined with Chair Yoga. This includes muscle toning, mobility, and mindfulness all in a seated joint-friendly format.


TIME

Every Monday & Wednesday 1:30 – 2:30 pm at 21 Angeline St N Lindsay

Together in Movement and Exercise (TIME) welcomes people with balance and mobility issues to focus on functional mobility. Led by trained staff in a safe, supportive environment, this program focuses on improving strength, coordination, and confidence through guided movement. This class is open to individuals living with neurological conditions, age-related mobility issues and weakness after an operation or extended hospital stay.

Community Care’s Sage Advice and Gentle Exercises for Seniors (SAGES) is a video-based program designed to keep older adults physically active, functionally fit, and independent as they age. SAGES focuses on improving cardiovascular endurance, balance, muscle strength and flexibility. The exercises help older adults complete daily activities such as climbing stairs, getting out of a chair, bending down, and much more! SAGES is appropriate for older adults exercising at different levels of fitness and capability. Suggested contribution: $3 per visit (first visit free).

The SAGES program is available in communities across the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Community Care is pleased to offer adults of all ages the chance to enjoy pickleball – the great game with the strange name!

Pickleball is a court game that is a cross between tennis, badminton and table tennis. It can be played indoors or out, on a badminton-sized court with a plastic wiffle ball and paddles similar to those used in racquetball. Those looking to get or keep active throughout the year are encouraged to try this fun, recreational activity!

Please note there is no pre-registration required for Pickleball. We encourage you to drop into a session and check out Pickleball for yourself!

Spring – Summer (April to Sept) Schedule

When: Mondays 7 – 9 pm, Wednesdays 7 – 9 pm, and Fridays 9 – 11 am  

Where: Bobcaygeon Curling Club, 49 Mansfield St, Bobcaygeon

Cost: $3 per participant, first visit is free.

Fall – Winter (October to March) Schedule

When: Mondays 7 – 9 pm, and Wednesdays 7 – 9 pm 

Where: Bobcaygeon Public School, 30 Balaclava St, Bobcaygeon

Cost: $3 per participant, first visit is free.

Nordic Pole Walking is one of the fastest-growing low-impact exercises. Pole walking has been shown to burn more energy than regular walking, uses 90 per cent of the body’s muscles, and is a great social activity. Our free sessions are led by certified instructors.

All walkers are welcome – poles or no poles. A limited number of walking poles are provided for those who do not have their own.

Bobcaygeon – Wilderness Park

When: Tuesdays 9 – 10 am May until September

Lindsay – Nayoro Park

When: Fridays 9 – 10 am, & Tuesdays 6 – 7 pm May until September


Offered in partnership with the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team, Walk in the Halls provides the chance to walk in a warm, safe, and fun environment during the winter months. The program is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Step count logs and a limited number of pedometers are available so participants can track their progress.

The entrance door is located on the South side of the building, facing Kent St. off of the parking lot. The registration table is straight through the doors in the open space ahead.

Walking Program volunteers help create a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment for participants of our walking programs. Volunteers offer encouragement, assist with sign-in and group organization, and share basic program information.
