A CCCKL Farewell for Hospice Volunteer
October 30, 2024
Long-time Hospice Services volunteer Dorothy Crombie retired and handed in her purple vest at the end of September. Dorothy has been an integral part of the Hospice Team since 2013. Over those many years, she supported palliative clients and their families in their homes, worked at the Hospice Services reception desk welcoming visitors and making every client and individual feel safe and welcome but Dorothy’s most heartfelt calling was to the Palliative Unit at Ross Memorial Hospital. Dorothy has a way of making everyone she meets feel valued and important. She listens with keen attention and true compassion. Dorothy always exceeded the standard of care and both raised the bar and supported everyone around her to always aim for the “best care possible”.
In the more than 4381 hours (not a typo!!) that Dorothy gave to Hospice Services, she touched countless lives in the most beautiful way. People often recognize Dorothy’s voice or laugh and approach her to say thank you for the care she offered to them and to the person they loved. Although she no longer is an official hospice volunteer, we have no doubt that she will continue to “hospice” anyone lucky enough to share a path in life with her even for a short while.
Dorothy served with her whole heart and we are all better for having had the gift of working along side her. Please join us in thanking Dorothy for the wonderful difference she made to so many in our community!
